In this 60 min talk I will describe a connection between certain symmetries of the category of topological spaces with classical homotopy theory.  To measure a symmetry one tries to enumerate orbits of the action of some operations. In our case we concentrate on a so called idempotent operations and discuss how they act on  classifying spaces of finite groups. The talk is aimed at a general algebra and geometry audience and it will not be technical. This is a join work with E. Dror Farjoun, R. Flores, and J. Scherer.
