I discuss the conjecture that the angular momentum of
compact, axially symmetric initial data in Relativity
is bounded from above by (suitably defined) sizes or
``energies'' of the manifold. Support for the conjecture
comes from recent results on the construction of initial
data in this context via the conformal method.
