ABSTRACT: The stable homotopy category can be viewed as an enrichment of the category of abelian groups in which there is an infinite family of chromatic primes (n,p) interpolating between characteristic 0 and characteristic p.  It has long been observed that the local structure at these primes becomes more algebraic when p is large with respect to the height n. This talk is about joint work with Schlank and Stapleton that provides one way of making this observation precise, using ideas inspired by mathematical logic.
