Abstract

Suppose you placed a city map of Stockholm on the floor somewhere in Gamla Stan: Then exactly one (mathematical) point on that map lies precisely at the physical spot it represents. Fixed point theorems appear in many different areas of mathematics, with applications ranging from quantum physics to game theory. In this talk we discuss some standard results about fixed points and present a few classical applications.
