Abstract: Our aim is to develop a tool for determining an optimal set of tyres for each vehicle and operating environment specification. The overall purpose is to reduce the fuel consumption and tyre wear while preserving the levels of other tyre dependent features. A computationally efficient tyre model connecting the existing expert knowledge about the simulation-based function describing the rolling resistance coefficient of truck tyre with its radial basis function interpolation will be described.
The simulation-based truck tyres selection optimization problem is aimed to be solved efficiently in the combinatorial setting of vehicles and operating environments. An algorithm for the global optimization of such a combinatorial set of problem instances will be explained. This algorithm enables a computationally efficient search for an approximately optimal tyre design for each vehicle configuration and each operating environment specification.¨
