The fractional quantum Hall effect occurs in a two-dimensional electron gas subject to a strong perpendicular magnetic field. I will present a Hamiltonian that describes a limiting case of this system of interacting electrons and for which the eigenstates, and eigenvalues, can be obtained. The analysis of the model is simple, almost trivial, but nevertheless have many of the non-trivial properties characteristic of the fractional quantum Hall effect such as excitations with fractional electric charge.
