Fifteen years ago J.M.R. Parrondo, a Spanish physicist, proposed two losing games that when combined, by random mixture or by nonrandom alternation, form a winning game. This phenomenon is now known as Parrondo's paradox. In this talk I will discuss some recent joint work with Jiyeon Lee on several mathematical issues surrounding the paradox.
