I will define a certain birational, subtraction free map of the N-dimensional affine space which is compatible with certain actions of the affine symmetric group on the affine space in question. After tropicalization and restriction to the set of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, this map becomes the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth bijection. Some applications will be given, if the time will allow.
