Abstract.
The Euclidean distance degree of a multiview variety captures the algebraic complexity of triangulating 3D features from images via reprojection error minimization. In this talk, we present a formula for the Euclidean distance degree of curves parameterized by rational functions. We then apply this formula to resolve conjectures on one-parameter line multiview varieties proposed by Duff and Rydell. Time permitting, further applications of these techniques, such as camera resectioning, are discussed.
This is joint work with Bella Finkel.
