Henrik Löfberg: Barcodes: A Topological Method for Data Clustering

In this thesis seminar a comparison between traditional hierarchical clustering and barcoding is carried out. The first half defines and investigates hierarchical clustering and specific problems with common linkage functions. Then, in the second half, barcoding is investigated as an alternative method. Furthermore a method for combining barcoding with complete linkage is discussed with the goal to avoid the chaining phenomenon but still capture higher homology information.
