Transition functions of Sturm-Liouville operators, canonical systems or strings are integral transformations of the spectral functions which contain all the spectral information of the problem. We consider corresponding positive definite kernels, integral representations and continuation problems for hermitian functions, and the problem of local spectral uniqueness.
