Guus Bollen: The Lindström valuation of an algebraic matroid representation

For a field K and a matroid M, one may wonder whether M is algebraically representable over K. If the characteristic of K is nonzero, no algorithm for this is known. Joint work with Draisma and Pendavingh links algebraic matroids to Frobenius flocks and matroid valuations. In particular, each algebraic representation of a matroid gives rise to a matroid valuation, which we call its Lindström valuation. I will discuss its properties and applications.
