Simon Hanson: Hilbert's Invariance Theorem

Abstract:

In this thesis, we will work towards proving Hilbert’s Invariance Theorem. We take invariance to mean how polynomials stay unchanged under group action from a finite matrix group. We will work through the concepts of Ascending Chain Condition, Symmetric Polynomials, and the foundational Hilbert’s Basis Theorem to grasp the concepts.
