Fabian Carlström: Blow-ups and orders of vanishing

We study blow-ups and their relation to orders of vanishing in algebraic geometry. In particular, we study the exceptional divisor and the strict transform of a blow-up. Finally, we introduce the concept of order to measure the severity of singularities. We end by showing that blowing up a closed point on a hypersurface does not increase the order.
