Nonstandard analysis is calculus using infinitesimals instead of limits. We begin by constructing the set of hyperreal numbers, a field which contains infinitely small and infinitely large numbers. Under certain circumstances, one can transfer properties between the reals and the hyperreals, and thus prove theorems about classical real analysis using nonstandard methods.
