Kaj Börjeson: Knots and the Jones Polynomial

In this talk we introduce knots and links, both by a topological definition and a combinatorial one. We also consider the problem of how to distinguish knots and in particular we define the  Jones polynomial. We compute examples and indicate how to prove that it  is an invariant.
