Abstract: Take a number of electrons in the plane and confine them with some electric potential. How will they distribute themselves? This question is especially hard if the number of electrons is very large. In this case we call them a "Coulomb Gas" as they interact by Coulombs law. In this talk we will see how Coulomb gases can be related to the study of orthogonal polynomials which are families of polynomials orthogonal to each other with respect to some inner product.
