The talk will provide an introduction to electron tomography, a 3D microscopy imaging modality. The focus is on 3D imaging of biological specimens. The talk will also provide an outlook, where particular emphasis will be put on providing a description of problems that biologist's currently face when they use electron tomography, and how those problems relate to mathematics. If time permits, we will provide some examples of recently initiated research efforts that aim to resolve some of these aforementioned problems.
