Abstract: Veronese algebras are a classical family of rings that have played, and continue to play, a central role in many areas of mathematics. In the setting of non-standard graded polynomial rings, we study weighted Veronese rings through the lens of 2-dimensional normal semigroup rings. In this talk, we present recent results on algebraic properties and invariants of these algebras, using the theory of initial ideals and Gröbner bases.
