Characteristic Classes, such as Chern and Segre classes, are important invariants in algebraic geometry, especially in intersection theory and enumerative geometry. I will speak about a number of results by several people on computing degrees of certain characteristic classes, such as
generalized Chern classes of projective schemes. Starting with the common main idea behind the algorithms, I will then speak about more recent results.
