This talk will concern motivic zeta functions associated to degenerations of Calabi-Yau varieties. One can view this as a global version of Denef and Loeser's motivic zeta functions for hypersurface singularities. I will explain how certain well known invariants from the local theory can be globalized, in particular the log canonical threshold. Moreover, I will formulate a global version of the monodromy conjcture, and present evidence supporting it. This is joint work with Johannes Nicaise (Leuven).
