Abstract
This talk is a gentle introduction to Chow rings, which play a central role in the intersection theory of algebraic varieties. This is a somewhat mysterious object which contains a lot of information about the variety. I will discuss some difficulties in computing this invariant and talk a bit about how it relates to other invariants, e.g., cohomology theories.
