Richard Melrose: Aspects of the work of Lars Hörmander

The work of Lars Hörmander covered a wide area of mathematics. In this talk I will describe certain aspects of his work, particularly those concerning the development of pseudodifferential operators, Fourier integral operators and spectral asymptotics. I will try to indicate the influence of his ideas by discussing subsequent developments in wave propagation, scattering theory and inverse problems.
