Kemal Rose: Computing positive tropical varieties and lower bounds on the number of positive roots

Abstract:

In this talk we define the the positive tropicalization of algebraic varieties and present two effective tools for their computation. We propose a combinatorial bound on the number of positive real roots of a parametrized polynomial equation system. The latter can be applied to study the number of steady states in chemical reaction networks.
