Jonatan Lenells: The Wavemaker Problem

Abstract: I will discuss the problem of determining the wave profile generated by a periodically moving wavemaker mounted at one end of a wave tank. Mathematically, the problem can be expressed as a boundary value problem for a nonlinear evolution equation with time-periodic forcing. I will present a new technique for analyzing problems of this type and describe how it can be used to answer some questions raised by experiments 35 years ago.
