The Schur Multiplier (the second integral homology) is an important invariant of finite groups, for example it is a key ingredient in the classification of finite simple groups. The Schur Multipliers of symmetric groups have been calculated originally by Schur in 1911 using geometric methods. In this talk I will illustrate how to calculate the Schur Multipliers of the symmetric groups using homological methods. I will recall necessary background from homological algebra and group theory.
