Johan Frisk: The Sato-Tate conjecture

This thesis describes the Sato-Tate conjecture on the number of points on an elliptic curve over a finite field. I will show how this result can be derived using heuristics and numerical experiments. Some theory of elliptic curves will be provided to give a context for the conjecture. Furthermore I will describe applications of some of the methods used in this thesis.
