Factorization algebras are the algebraic structure encoding the observables of (Quantum) Field Theories. Locally constant ones gives rise to model for a class of (partially) homotopy commutative algebras called E_n-algebras which are important in homotopy theory and also gives rise to invariant of dimension n manifolds. The stratified version of locally constant factorization algebras can be used to do homological algebra with E_n-algebras and also gives rise to invariants of embedded manifolds or manifolds with specified singularities. In this first part of the talk we will go ove basic definitions and examples of these factorization algebras. In the second part of the talk we will discuss applications of this model to describe Bar construction and centralizers for E_n-algebras.
