Engineering Large-Scale Quantum Networks: Control, Optimization, and Adaptive Decisions

Abstract: The foundation of quantum computing and quantum cryptography systems are intrinsically formed by different types of networks of interconnected quantum components. The technological capacity to build, control, and estimate such networks with a small number (from two, three, to a few dozens) of quantum components already exists. The remaining scientific roadblock towards real-world quantum engineering lies in scaling this ability to be able to operate large quantum networks robustly and efficiently. This talk will give a brief introduction to this emerging area, and then present a few successful examples of our work by applying the idea of controlling and optimizing classical network systems to their quantum counterpart.
