Abstract
Hodge theory is a powerful tool in the study of smooth projective varieties: especially curves, complex tori and K3 surfaces.
I will give an introduction, largely via examples, to moduli spaces of smooth projective varieties, how we use Hodge theory to understand these varieties and their moduli spaces, and use this to motivate a program to construct completions of period maps. No familiarity with these topics is assumed.
