Aims and Objectives

Stockholm Mathematics Centre (SMC) is a joint initiative between Stockholm University  (SU) and the Royal Institute of Technology  (KTH) to promote Stockholm as a mathematics cluster at all levels: research, higher education, schools and society at large.

Current activities aimed at achieving this goal include:

  • Supporting master classes, other research activities, and PhD training held in Stockholm, and increasing contacts between KTH and SU
  • Hosting the SMC Colloquium (5–6 times per year)
  • Hosting Kalendariet (a weekly email on mathematics seminars and related events)
  • Supporting the joint master’s programme in Mathematics, as well as the Stockholm Trio master’s programme in Biostatistics and Data Science
  • Awarding prizes for excellent master’s and PhD theses in the mathematical sciences
  • Conducting outreach activities for upper-secondary students (Matematiska cirkeln) and younger students (Matteklubben)
