Using the "additive" form of the large sieve inequality, together with Farey fractions being well separated, we will deduce a multiplicative form of the large sieve; with it we can obtain cancellation for most members in certain families of exponential sums involving Dirichlet characters. Time permitting, we will deduce the Bombieri-Vinogradov theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions ("GRH holds on average".)
