Tianqi Liu: Prym varieties

Prym varieties are principally polarised abelian varieties associated to étale double covers of curves. They form a bridge between the theory of curves and the theory of abelian varieties. In particular, many approaches to the Schottky problem are related to Prym varieties. In this talk we give a brief introduction to the construction of Prym varieties together with some history and results.
