Abstract:

In this talk, we simulate deforming droplets in two-dimensional Stokes flow using a boundary integral formulation. In Stokes flow, surface tension plays a major role in how the drops behave. Adding surface active agents (surfactants) to the surfaces of the drops therefore changes their deformation.

We present our method of computing deforming surfactant-covered droplets accurately. In the case of inviscid bubbles, analytic results exist for validation. We show good agreement to these analytic results, both for clean and surfactant-covered bubbles. Finally, we simulate multiple closely interacting drops in different flow fields.
