Abstract:
Peer assessment is a course activity in which students give each other feedback on their work. The main cited advantages may be that students get to reflect on other’s solutions and see different ways of approaching a problem. A hurdle for peer assessment has been the extra course administration that it can cause, but modern learning management systems (including SU’s next LMS, Athena) tend to support forms of peer assessment, thus making it easier to introduce in a course. I have used a third-party system for peer grading, PeerGrade.io, in several courses now and will present my experiences with the system and the method. In my implementation, the main advantage is that TAs spend less time on grading and more time on teaching.
