Abstract

I will talk about how mathematics teaching can develop through inquiry processes. To do this I will draw on a range of examples from teaching practice in which I have taken part either as a teacher, researcher or both. The examples will be related to published papers. I will aim for us to discuss the nature of teaching, what we aim to achieve through different approaches, and how we can design teaching to fulfil particular objectives for particular cohorts of students. In our discussion I hope we can offer different perspectives and rationales for how we teach and perhaps come to consider alternative views relating to what we teach and who our students are.
