Abstract

In this talk I will discuss a modern point of view on algebraic geometry, introducing ideas from probability for approaching classical geometric problems.

The main feature of this approach is the shift from the notion of "generic", from classical algebraic geometry, to the notion of "random". This change of perspective brings new characters into the picture (convex geometry, measure theory, representation theory, asymptotic analysis...) and opens for new interesting questions over non algebraically closed fields. At the same time, it sheds new light on the world of complex algebraic geometry.
