ABSTRACT: In 1985, Gromov proved his famous non-squeezing theorem using pseudoholomorphic curves. The result was the first obstruction to symplectic embeddings beyond a volume constraint. More recently, McDuff and Schlenk in 2012 discovered an infinite Fibonacci staircase associated with four-dimensional symplectic embeddings of balls into ellipsoids. In this talk, I will discuss recent progress on symplectic embeddings between ellipsoids and polydiscs of dimension four.
