Simon Cooper: Arithmetic Geometry Learning Seminar: Diophantine problems and p-adic period mappings (after Lawrence—Venkatesh)

Abstract:
I will define the (local) p-adic period map which plays a central role in the Lawrence-Venkatesh method. Then I'll discuss how this compares with the complex period map defined by Stefan earlier in the seminar. In particular, I'll present a technical lemma which relates the (closure of the) image of the p-adic period map with the image of the complex period map.
