The weak Lefschetz property, roughly speaking, means that the multiplication map by a generic linear form between vector spaces has maximal rank.
However this problem may seem easy it is often rather difficult to determine the weak Lefschetz property even in special cases.
An enormous quantity of work has been done studying and applying this property on geometry, algebra, and combinatorics.
The study of Lefschetz properties has its origin in hard Lefschetz theorem and it is strongly connected to a famous conjecture in combinatorics (g-conjecture) dealing with triangulations of a sphere.
In this talk I will introduce the topic and present some known results as well as famous open problems.
