Arithmetic Geometry Learning Seminar - Diophantine problems and p-adic period mappings

Abstract:
This talk is the first in a learning seminar on Lawrence—Venkatesh’s proof of Faltings theorem: every hyperbolic curve of a number field has only finitely many rational points. I will explain the general strategy of the proof and discuss some background as well as examples.
