Dan Petersen: Quadratic differentials and triangulations of moduli spaces

I will explain the Jenkins-Strebel-Mumford-Thurston theory: to a compact Riemann surface with N marked points which have been assigned positive weights, one can associate a quadratic differential and from this an embedded graph in the surface. Using this, one can produce (roughly) a triangulation of the moduli space of curves.
